THE Malay Strategic Investors' Association of Malaysia (PPSMM) expects investments in Bursa Malaysia to swell by at least 20 per cent by year-end, driven by investors' growing buying interest.
Its president Norizam Tukiman said strong market fundamentals, strengthening ringgit and economic stability resulting from the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) and the Government Transformation Programme (GTP) are the core pull factors for local and foreign investors.
He said many potential investors have adopted a "hold" position as they expect the market to be "quiet" due to concerns over the general election.
"However, the stock market index surged to the highest level in its history after Barisan Nasional was proclaimed the victor," he said.
The key index FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) recorded 1,826.22,
its highest-ever closing, on May 6, a day after the 13th General
Election, driven by a "buying spree" by both local and foreign investors
who were confident of continuity in government policies that could
stimulate the economy.
Meanwhile, Norizam said Malaysia Investment and Stocks Exchange Expo (MISEE) 2013 is expected to attract between 30,000 and 50,000 visitors.
The event, organised by PPSMM, will be held at Persada Johor International Convention Centre in Johor Baru from May 17 to May 19.
"Of the total number of visitors expected at the event, 80 per cent are likely from the younger generation who do not possess Central Depository System (CDS) account," Norizam said.
PPSMM hopes that the retail investors participation ratio can be increased by 30 per cent to 50 per cent over the next three years. "Currently, there is a low number of retail investors participating in the local bourse but we are working hard to improve that.
"Through the expo, we will educate people on buying shares based on fundamental and track records instead of driven by market sentiments," he added.
